Cognitive Effects of Spinal Cord Injuries

Spinal cord injuries are a common result of traumas such as car, truck, motorcycle, construction or other accidents. They are therefore also often a subject of negligence claims against reckless drivers or negligent medical professionals.

Damages claims in these cases will often focus on ongoing medical expenses of managing the injury, for example: physical therapy, medical aids and occupational therapy.

However, two new studies published in the Journal of Neuroscience and Cell Cycle highlight new links between spinal cord injury and ongoing cognitive effects including cognitive decline and depression.
A summary of both studies is provided by ScienceAlert here.
