Two papers published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry have comprehensively reviewed pharmacological treatment methods for children and adolescents suffering from ADHD who have oppositional behaviour, conduct problems, and aggression.
The studies indicate that:
- The most beneficial medical treatments include psychostimulants, alpha-2 agonists, and atomoxetine. With psychostimulants having the best effect on behaviour.
- Antipsychotics and mood stabilisers had little if any therapeutic effect on behaviour.
